Scrap Bag Purse

It was time for a new purse. I hadn’t purchased a new purse since the movie “The Titanic” came out, when was that 1997? The old leather purse strap is cracked, every time I went out I was worried the strap was going to break. Shopping for a new bag was not really an option, we are always so busy when we make trips to town, there never seemed to be time to look for a new bag. This is where the internet is invaluable to me, I can spend time on line looking for a new bag that I can sew myself and for a model that fits my needs, no rush.

Here is a link to the site where the bag of my sewing dreams was found:

La Maison Reid

Here is the bag I made from the instructions:

This bag is smaller than the bag from the La Maison Reid site, smaller is better for me. I also added a pocket for little things like lip balm, hand lotion, and a packet of aspirin.

This is a look at the lining fabric, it is a scrap of material left over from a dress I made many years ago.

Total cost for this project, $0.00, everything is from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by, I do enjoy visitors and hope that you will come to see me again.

I love it! It’s wonderful when we can create just what suits us. It’s so hard to find a good purse!

The purse was very easy to make and modifications were no trouble at all.

Shari I love it! I have also modified this pattern a few times (you can see the black one on my blog that is a bit smaller and wider than the chocolate brown one) and I have added pockets inside. I have found the burlap does not hold up very well and am dying to try this in a heavy linen. They are fun to make and are great gifts. Love your lining and love the background fabric in the photo, too!
    Good job!
(oh…what type of fabric is your purse?)

Nancy, I used a piece of black small wale corduroy that was in my scrap stash. I am really so pleased with the purse, thanks for putting the instructions on your blog for me to follow.
