My Moss Business

Months later, my moss business has really taken off. I ship well over 100 packages each week. I did take on a part time job at a local store that offered health benefits at only $10 per week. I only work 2 days a week and also get a discount on anything I buy there, including gasoline. I like it there and I enjoy seeing the customers. Life is so good!

I am now offering plants as well as about 12 varieties of moss and that has kept me extra busy this spring. I am so happy I started this little business!

Updates

A frozen January day! 3 months since my last post! I’ve been so busy with my business. I have moss on the brain. Then came an email yesterday requesting approval for a comment on my first post. And another today. My wake-up call!

So much has happened over the past 3 months, since my layoff. Within two weeks of my layoff, the company laid off half the remaining employees. Two of my co-workers are still there. They wish they weren’t. They now have to do the work of all those who were let go plus their own. There were no Christmas bonuses. No annual raises (some haven’t had one in 2 years). Last week a memo went around saying that in order to increase productivity, they were eliminating the 10 minutes morning and afternoon breaks.

Sometimes being laid off is better than keeping your job! When I was let go, my friends thought I was crazy to be happy. Now they are miserable.

A Nice Day After All!

It ended up being a nice day after all! The rain didn’t last long and then it was partly cloudy and around 60 degrees. I loaded the car with my shipments and went to the post office and after that stopped at my friend’s shop for a cup of coffee. We sat there talking and saw a Penn DOT truck go by with his SNOWPLOW on! My goodness! We listened to the news and found out that there’s snow predicted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Chances are it won’t fall in my valley – too warm here. But the mountains will have snow. UGH! I do dislike winter!

Realizing that winter weather is indeed on the way, I spent 2 hours hiking and collecting mosses for my terrariums and customers. It was possibly the last warmer day we will see for months.

All in all a great day!

Good Morning!

Good Morning!

It’s a chilly damp morning here in Central PA. The rain just started and I do hope we don’t get too much today – I’ve got lots to do and I hate running errands in the rain.

I have been selling mosses and terrariums online for a while now. I worked full time as a Construction Project Manager. I loved my job but not where I worked. I prayed for a way out. I was laid off. For me, this was the perfect opportunity to grow my moss business and follow my dream of starting a plant center at my home. I want to sell plants and produce here along with some unique crafts.

My plan has been laid out and I am so excited! For every door that closes, another one opens!
