Theresa replied to the forum topic What are your favourite veggie varieties? in the group Over the Garden Fence January 21, 2013 4:44 pm
Hi Kim!
Our red beets did great last year, but I’m not sure of the variety! We are going to try an orange variety this year with them. They are in the Seeds of Change catalog

Thanks! Putting ruffles on sleeves and hopefully getting the hems done and then finished.

I’m making dresses for our Georgian Tea… I messed up on the skirt to this by turning it the wrong way, so I added length. Just have to add lace to the sleeves and bottom, add the sash and finished. I’ll post a finished tea picture. I have fun making them, even though my period correctness isn’t perfect!

Hi Ladies, I just now saw these responses, I didn’t get an email, sorry!
I’ve never gotten raspberries to grow well, so not sure if the winter would kill them. I’m not sure what kind they were:) So the […]

So all my new little cabbage plants died, and when I looked really close they had tiny black bugs on them. The same bugs we found on one of our Aspen trees…not sure how to get rid of them or what they are. I can try to get a picture later, when I was investigating, so were the bees!

We tried to grow raspberries, they died. ARG… It is so incredibly hard to grow things here. We planted an apple tree and it’s got curly leaf right now. I just started regular kelp feedings so maybe it will […]

Colorado… Ok, maybe I’ll put these in the garden in their pots for a day then transplant. These are restarts and are in our greenhouse too. The first batch died when I left them on the deck for a day, it was just too hot. I have ordered from Bakers yes!

Today I planted our pumpkins, peas, cucumbers and beets. I just have to transplant the tomatoes and plant cabbage and spinach. Wondering if I should sit the tomatoes out for a day before putting them in? They are about 4″ tall but not really ‘stalky’ yet. Any advice? I haven’t had a huge success with tomatoes here. Someone said that Roma does…[Read more]

Where do you live? I am letting mine develop a think stem. Most are ready and I’m sitting them outside for a day. They have been under a greenhouse plastic but we’ve let the doors open for a week now. Have you looked at Baker’s Heirlooms catalog? They have a lots of heirlooms! Lots of Roma types too.

All plants that have been started indoors or in a greenhouse should be hardened off before planting out side. They aren’t use to the wind, and direct sun and often will die if planted out right away. I put mine out in a sheltered and shady spot for an hour, then bring them back in. I do that for a week, each day lengthening the amount of time…[Read more]

What about if you had your greenhouse open to the elements and it was 93 outside? I have 1/2 of mine sitting out for 2 days and they look ok!

I don’t know, if could depend a lot on the temps outside to. But any time I’ve bought plants from a nursery and planted them out right away they struggled. Same problem if I took them right out of my greenhouse to the garden. It’s why most books recommend hardening them off for a week. But if it was similar in temp to your greenhouse and…[Read more]

Give your tomatoes a good dose of fertilizer tea. They probably have used up the nutrients the original soil. You should see a change in them within a short time. Mine really bulked up in a week.

John finished the railings on the deck. We had to take the deck completely apart and redo most of it. He added on to it, making it huge and it goes right in front of the garden, but assures me it won’t cast a shadow
So thankful he can build! -

Easy Grammar and Math-U-See. Zach’s math improved 100 percent! Easy Grammar is great and not overbearing.

We are having salad with cut up steak on top and baked potatoes. We can’t usually buy enough steak to feed the entire crew very often, so this makes a special not too expensive dinner.
