I just ordered a new book “Seed To Seed” and can’t hardly wait for it to arrive. I should have ordered it this Spring and it would have help me save some of the seeds from this year’s garden. I have tried saving seed before, always from heirloom plants, and some would produce while others would not. Never had had any luck with apples! …[Read more]

What a beautiful day in our area today! The three digit heat has left and the high should only be in the 80’s! Now that’s what I call a lovely day!

In reply to: adelane posted an update in the group Homestead Cookbook: bread…. any amazing bread recipes? I lost my handy dandy bread recipe, and i havent been able to find one online i *like*. ViewHi Adelane! I found this recipe on the internet. She calls it Survival Bread because the ingredients are minimal and would be found in anyones “survival pantry”. I tried it and our family loves it, but I must say it is more like the bread in Europe – it’s not the soft doughy bread like we are used to in the U.S. Try it and see if it suits…[Read more]

Simplify – what a wonderful concept! A few years ago I went through my house while I was doing my usual weekly housecleaning and anything I did not love or use I set on my kitchen counter. Everything else I cleaned and left where it was. By the end of the day I had 60, [...]

have any of you used a homemade solar cooker? I have been looking at different styles and wondered if anyone had a preference. I’m thinking about using a smaller box painted black and put it in a larger box that I can insulate in between the two boxes. This might also allow me to weight the outer box with a brick in the bottom – it’s really…[Read more]

I was going to try and make one of these a few years ago, but then found out I can’t use the boxes because of where I live ( they attract the brown recluse spider ) so I temporarily gave up on it. I was wondering if a plastic bin would work? What do you think?
Sand in the bottom of the large box would weigh it down, and help to hold in the heat…[Read more]-

Does anyone out there have any information about elderberries? I know they have a multitude of health benefits, just wondered how hard they are to grow and how long before a new bush will bear beneficial fruit?

Where did you find this book?
Amazon.com – it’s my favorite place to shop!
It’s a great book. It not only tells how to save different seeds but also gives information on which varieties you can grow together without cross pollinating.
Seed to Seed is a really great book. I ordered it several years ago. My son has been reading it here lately.
