What is a cowl? It sounds like something that keeps a body warm.

We had a frost last night, but it did not hit my tomatoes. I think because they are close to a building. I covered the spinach and herbs, so they’re ok too. I have chives and rosemary drying and just finished up the last of the parsley. Parsley had a rough start so next year I’m going to plant lots of it. I use this the most in cooking. …[Read more]

lynn posted on the forum topic What are you dehydrating this week? in the group Preserving The Harvest: October 3, 2011 4:56 pm
I dried celery leaves, chives, mint, oregano, carrots and I will be doing apples this week. I have a dehydrator, but it’s so much easier to use the pilot on my oven. May as well put the waste of fuel to good use.

Today I made HM rolls and apple crisp. The crockpot is steaming on low with a chicken breast in it. The liquid will become stock for a number of things. I was hoping others would post what they are doing. It’s a good way to learn new things.

I went to town today to grab some groceries. I went to the Save A Lot store for a couple of items (carrots and celery) I noticed the older folks were stressing as they checked prices and put things back on the shelf. I felt bad for them (many did this). I could feel the anxiety in them. Thankfully – at this time- it’s not me or my family,…[Read more]

lynn posted on the forum topic Storage of Dry Food Items in the group Homemaking: September 29, 2011 3:14 pm
Someone asked about storing herbs. This is an easy one for me, and the only one I know about! I dehydrate them, then seal in an airtight bag. (food saver type of bag) I bought a bucket from a bakery for 1.00 and I will begin to use it as storage for the food [...]

Hi Lynn, Yes I can chicken and beef. I read you can do ham too but I don’t have any to do! I cook my chicken off the bones then can it in the pressure canner. Sometimes I do broth too. I have also done ground sirloin, meatballs and stew meat. It sure comes in handy in a jar. Kim’s video is very helpful. Just ask if you need help!

I, too, worry for those people and all of us. It makes me feel pressure to can, dehydrate, and to learn all of the recipes my grandparents knew well. They are very hard to find….surprisingly. I do make my own castile soap and from there my own laundry detergent and cleaning products. Not really sure why people are so quick to believe the…[Read more]
