I like the idea of a living mulch. Here, we have moss all over. It’s throughout the gardens and lawns – it doesn’t matter if it is sunny or shady. This year I’ve decided to let it grow in several of my shady perennial beds. Mosses are like sponges and really hold the moisture in. Most of the mosses growing in my beds get thick enough to crowd out weeds. I think, too the addition of moss-covered rocks will look appealing.
I also grow strawberries and I can attest that a living mulch is great for them. It keeps the berries out of the mud and has worked like a charm for me!
