Our Canadian winters are long and cold.  A favorite treat during that time is our homemade hot chocolet.  Nothing taste better after coming in from shoveling the driveway sledding with the kids.

I’ve found this a much taster and cheaper alternative then buying little cans at the store.
This also makes a wonderful gift!  Fill a quart canning jar with the mix.  Add some pretty ribbon around the top and you have a quick and easy gift.

I finished another knitting project and it’s a hit!  This is for my BIL for Christmas, but dh was kind to model it for  photos.  He loves it and wants one as well.  I’m hoping to start on that today.

The pattern is Easy Balaclava and you can find it here on Ravelry or on Knitting in Color’s blog.

The only change I made to the pattern was to use a bulky weight yarn.  This gave me a men’s large size and it fits great.  Yarn used Cascades Eco +.

Well I guess I spoke to soon.  Less then an hour after posting last night about the lack of snow…yup it started snowing! LOL  We’ve been getting squalls all night, about 6 inches so far.  They are saying we might get up to 60 cm (2  feet) of snow in the next 24 hours.  Again today all the busses in the area were cancelled and most of the schools closed.  I bet the kids are all thrilled to have two snow days in a row.  That’s one thing I do like about homeschooling.  When the weathers bad we carry on as normal here.  But when the winds calm and the day is nice we can have a real snow day and get out and play.
Right now the snow is coming down very heavy, you can hardly see out the window!

We are under a winter storm warning…Some time tonight it’s suppose to start.  I wonder if I should believe them this time? LOL  We are suppose to get 10 to 15 cm of snow with high winds, then rain tomorrow, then a flash freeze and more snow.  That will be a nice icy mess eh?

Yesterday I decided to tackle some of the carrots we harvested.  I peeled and cut about 3/4′s of a sink full.  And messed up my shoulder again. (sigh) LOL So I put the carrots in a pot of cold water over night.  I just put them in the canner now.  Don’t ask me how many carrots I have left to can! LOL!!!  What a mixed up garden/weather year it was.  They should have been ready to can in Aug. but they weren’t until Oct.

Hubby just came in saying how cold it was outside.  That the east wind has started.  I wonder how much longer till the snow starts….

Oh yes, yesterday I got dh to take me to Walmart.  And this one was pretty much out of black fleece to! LOL  Starting to laugh yet?  I got the woman to measure out the tiny bit left and it was 3 inches short of a meter.  Also the one end had a big half circle cut out of it….That just wouldn’t do for a blanket backing lol.  So I found a nice winter tree print and a solid blue.  I’ll use that to make one, and I’m hoping I have enough of the other prints to make a backing from…I have to pull them out tomorrow and see.

I did find some pretty light yellow fleece remnants at a great price though.  They will make some nice longies for dd.

Well the summer temperatures have finally started. But we are busy getting ready for winter. We have found a number of stores that will give away skids/pallets for free, they make great firewood.
