Over all it’s been a pretty cold fall here and rainy oh my!  Yesterday the temps really started to drop.  Then just after supper time it started to snow.  We even had a little thunder and lighting to surprise the kids.  They were all glued to the windows for a few hours watching the snow come down as it got dark.

This morning we woke up to about an inch of wet snow on the ground.  It was so pretty as it was sticking to the trees.  The radio was saying that the sun would come out and everything would melt today.  But it’s been snowing on and off all day.  Everyone headed outside to build snowman in between the snow squalls.

Will the snow stay?  I don’t know!  They are saying tomorrow will be 8C and it should all melt.  But they said that today to. lol

Have you had any snow yet?  Are you all ready for winter?

Hi everyone!  I didn’t intend for such a long time between postings.  Dec/Jan is a busy time for us and often I would go to write a post and something would come up.

It’s really cold here today, last night went down to -15 C not including the wind chill.   Burr!!  I’m working at getting caught up on things today.  Friday  coming home the idler pulley broke on the van, so dh spent Sat. tracking down a part and fixing it.  Then another snow storm moved in that evening.  WOW were the winds ever strong!  Many times that evening we couldn’t see out out windows for the blowing snow.  The next morning we had a foot of snow in the driveway, and of course a small mountain at the bottom of the driveway.  A nice gift from the snow plow. lol  Only problem with that was the snowblower wouldn’t start!  It took dh most of the morning to get it running.  Turns out the float in the carb was frozen real bad.  Not real impressed for a brand new snowblower to be giving us problems already.  It has less then 15 hours running time on it.  Some times I think you just can’t win.  If you buy an old one your fixing it constantly.  If you buy a new one it breaks anyway.  At one time you would spend good money for a new item and it would LAST.

I’ve made a few new videos this past week.  One is for my rice pudding recipe and the other for my hot chocolate mix.  I hope you enjoy!  I filmed a basic bread baking video this weekend as well.  I hope to have that up soon to.

For the past month of so, we have been getting small amounts of snow.  Normally we have an inch or so on the ground, then it would warm up rain and melt away.  But it looks like winter has come to stay now.  Late Saturday night the winds started to pick up.  By Sunday morning it was snowing hard!  We are still getting snow squalls and it looks like it will snow all week.  Right now there is a foot or more of snow on the ground.  When hubby went out to blow the driveway out today he said there was a 3 foot drift in front of the barn.

Although the cold winds are strong (-15 C wind chill) the snow sure is pretty!

We put our Christmas tree up last night, I will post photos later.  The kids had a wonderful time decorating it.

Burrr our summer weather has left and been replaced by cold wind and rain. Yesterday it changed to snow. Coming down very heavy at times. Only a dusting stuck to the ground and melted away by noon the next day.

A winter storm came through Southern Ontario and the Eastern USA yesterday.  We were just on the edge of it.  For most of the day we had pretty steady snow and as the day went on stronger and stronger winds.  All night we could hear the winds howling.  Compared to many we are very lucky.  We simply had a driveway to blow out as it had drifted in badly.  Over a million people lost power in the USA from the storm, close to 5000 in Ontario.  The news is reporting that not one highway in the Toronto area was accident free.  Mainly from people not driving to conditions.  We have had such a mild winter here and people seem slow to remember you need to slow down when the weather is bad.

Snow fall in Dutchess County New York

New York had 40cm of snow and for the 2nd time in a month (4th time in 6 years) had to close schools.

I do sit and wonder when I read the news how many people are really prepared for emergencies?

Especially in the Eastern USA that rarely gets heavy snow storms.  They certainly have been hit hard this year.  I have seen photos showing empty store shelves when heavy storms are predicted.  If  that is any indication, it is obvious that most people are not prepared for emergencies.

How many people wake up to no power and have no way to heat their homes?  Or no food on hand that can be prepared easily?  Many people don’t even own a manual can opener.  It is so important to have our family’s prepared for emergencies.  I honestly can’t count how many times having a well stocked pantry has helped our family.  When a sudden job loss, storm, or blackout hits you don’t have to worry about how or what to cook.

Hubby took this vid this morning, having some fun blowing out our long driveway.  The second video was shot last year.  You can really see how much more snow we had then!

Our last shopping trip of 2009 and a good storm blew in while we were out!  Very strong winds and heavy snow.  It seemed to get worse the closer we came to home.  The camera doesn’t pick up the snow as heavy as it really was.  Watch near the end, we come around a side road and hit a huge drift.  It was about 2 feet high and very long.  Thankfully no ditching!

Thank you to all our viewers who helped us build our channel!  We have enjoyed making all of the vids and we plan on more to come.  Be safe and take care.

Would you like to join us for a winter drive? Hubby put together a video of some winter senery we filmed along with music he wrote.  Hope you enjoy!

Hubby getting his new snow blower ready for winter.  Just in time for our big storm!  Since our driveway is not paved we have to adjust the guides higher then factory settings.
