Facebook group for St. Thomas garden.

Hubby came across a video talking about the fight going on in St. Thomas, Ontario over a community garden. It seems the trouble is mainly being caused by 1 neighbor that doesn’t want the garden on her street.

To make matters worse the town board is fighting them to, but only because of the complaint. The zoning for the lot is R3 and community gardens aren’t on the “OK” list of uses. Funny enough from the info I saw on the facebook page, you could have a church or daycare there but not a GARDEN!?! Good grief…

It makes me so upset and sad when people try and stop others from growing FOOD! The urban agriculture movement has been growing in the last few year. Something that I’m so happy to see!

  1. [...] doesn’t want it beside her.  How sad and frustrating!  I posted more information on our website about it and some videos as [...]

  2. This is inconceivable! I have heard of some silly things in my time, but I think I would rate this right up there with the highest in the list of foolish, selfish, and demoralizing…how sad, and absolutely pathetic…praying for all those involved, and hoping it can be resolved without any further hurt or emotional turmoil. One thing, too…either STAND or FALL, but don’t start something you are not willing to face…just my opinion.

  3. How sad! That again the voices of a few over rule the many, it seems this is becoming more and more commonplace in society. Having said that the majority was certainly unheard with all the bailouts and healthcare.

I’m going to post this over on blog, actually it will be a link back to yours for everyone to watch.

I’m without words, just fuming abotu this too :o (
    Blessings,
    Kelle

  4. This is a city lot and this is what happens when idiots get elected to public offices. The woman complaining is also an idiot. Frankly, what a b***h. If I were the folks gardening, I’d hire a lawyer and sue her a$$ and the city too for violating their Constituional rights to “Life, Liberty, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS!”

*edited by site owner for language. This is a family friendly site please no cuss words. Otherwise agree with your comment! :-)

Anyway, will be watching your last two videos and comment afterwards…just glad to have found her. I think I need to join this site if I can figure it out LOL…as you can see, I am SOOOO NOT technical…need my hubby for all this. LOL

  6. This drives me absolutely crazy…great video. And NO, it should not be illegal to grow food…what kind of day and age are we living in???? So very sad. Where are there constitutional rights???? Not like they are growing drugs…we are talking about food for families to live…but government does not want anyone to get ahead…I guess they won’t be gett taxes for this garden will they? Sorry, just had to throw that in. And the person(s) who made the complaint, at least show yourselves and make your point so others can give answer back to your concerns.

    Sigh!!!!1

Hi! Found your new blog to. :-) Please don’t judge wordpress by homesteadbloggers new setup. They have so many glitches most of everything doesn’t work right. :-(

I’d love to have you visit the community here to! You can click this link to join. http://www.homestead-acres.com/community.html
It’s pretty easy to use, and I can help you if you get stuck. :-)

  8. @ Kelle:
Thank you Kelle! Last update I heard it sounds like they are going to close it. :-( The town is going to set up a community garden on the outskirts of the city. So now people will have to drive all the way out there. What if they don’t drive? Not a real energy savings to have to do that either. Not to mention the loss of all the time/money/seeds that went into the other garden…(sigh) I just don’t get people.

  9. Hi Kim…thanks for commenting on my blog. Our power was out for 12 hours…thankful for a generator:-) We try not to turn it on for at least 8…but by then I’m a bit concerned for all our freezers…so we turn it on for a few hours and because it went off at 4:00pm…we turned it off before going to bed…so it at least helps the freezers throughout the night.

Hope your power stayed on. We are having huge wind storms these past couple of weeks.

  10. Hi Kim…could you tell me how I use the chatroom. I have been trying, but think I’m doing something wrong.

    Thanks,
    Connie

Connie, Just click in the empty box under the chat to type. Hit enter to send. There is also a little window box with an arrow under it. If you click that it’ll pop out into a new window.

  12. I saw this post on your Ravelry page and thought this British scheme might be of interest to you.
