Our weather has been very warm the past week and it looks like it will be for the next few.    So we’ve been busy getting the gardens planted.  Over the last few days we’ve planted the kids garden and the cabbages (early, late and red), garden huckleberries, eggplant, Italian zucchini and most of the tomatoes.   I still have a few flats of tomatoes in the greenhouse.  But they wont be planted for a few more weeks.  Some I just started last week (bonny best, celebrity and brandywine) others were planted in egg cartons.  They just did not grow as well as the ones in plastic pots.  I’ve repotted them into peat pots and they should catch up soon.

Today I trimmed the grass around the raised beds and weeded them well.  Tomorrow I will be planting cucumbers and beans in there.  We are hoping to start planting the potatoes as well.

The ground is terribly dry, I’m hoping we really do get the rain they are predicting for Sat.  This weekend is Victoria Day weekend, so it’s a good bet that we will get some rain. LOL!  It always seems to rain on that weekend!

  1. Hi! I found you, and I am SO happy! I have been missing your posts! The garden plot looks great, Btw, and it seems we have something else in common, Huchkleberries. We have a Huge stand of them, over 2o, and they are loaded down right now with fruits! Can’t wait to get started with the canning!
Blessings, and SO good to see you!

Aww thanks! I’ve been blogging here for quite a while. I used to try and post at both places…but it was harder to get the videos to work on the other site.

This is my first year growing huckleberries! I’m glad to hear you like them. Do you have any good recipes?

  3. Your garden pictures are great! I saw your youtube video on how to plant tomato seeds. What do you do with the trays once they are planted? How do you keep them warm to get them to germinate? And, where do you put your plants to grow? Do you have a greenhouse?
We are going to try starting our own seeds next year. We don’t have a greenhouse but we were thinking we might rig up some kind of germination house and then, once the plants were up, we might cover a raised bed with hoops and plastic and just sit the trays under it until time to plant. I don’t know if any of this this will keep them warm enough though.
Thanks for praying for my hubby. He’s awake this mornind and seems to be in a good spirit.

Yes we built a small greenhouse last spring. But before that I used a light set in the house to start my plants. I’ve also used bright windows with luck as well. Although the plants really do better in the greenhouse.

Most plants will germinate just fine in your house with out extra TLC. The plastic domes that come with the trays help keep them warm and humid until they sprout.

After they are up you could try a sunny window or grow lights until the weather is warmer. A cold frame/hoop house will work great! As long as the night time temps don’t get to low. Even with our little greenhouse there are times we have to run a heater in it.

So glad to hear your hubby is feeling better! :-)
