Well the winter storm the news had been going on about didn’t really materialize.   But we did get a little snow yesterday!  It started in the afternoon and by this morning we had 2 inches of fresh snow.  Not a storm by a long shot, but pretty. :)  What we have had are frigid temps on the homestead!  Today it was -15 C and the windchill -22 C.  Tonight and tomorrow will be colder.  Burrr, times like this I’m so grateful for the wood stoves.

I’ve been suffering from spring fever, I want to get back in the gardens!! Maybe I’ve been watching to many gardening videos on YouTube lately.  It has inspired me to make room for my grow lights again.  Tomorrow I’ll be making room in the summer kitchen to set them up.  Hopefully hubby and I will be able to get the stand up from the basement ok.  It’s very heavy!  He built it for me the first winter after we moved in to this house.

We’ve both been thinking next summer will be a cold one.  I checked the Farmers Almanac online and for Southern Ontario they are saying a cold and dry summer.  Hopefully it wont be to bad!  But I’m planning my gardens for a cold season.  I’m just about done my seed order and there will be many Canadian and Russian variety’s this year!

  1. Thanks for your comment Kim…I realized that usually when I’m on homestead acres I’m using my lap top and therefore the the screen is smaller…okay, how dumb am I? LOL

We got around 11 inches of snow Friday night and Saturday morning. Everything started to melt by the afternoon…but the evening dipped to -4 and now today Sunday everything is all ice…so not going to church that’s for sure. Plus still coughing all the time.

    Have a blessed Lords day.

  2. Kim How did you find your weather on Farmer’s Almanac for this summer? Would love to see your stand for the growing lights. Where do you put it in your house? Well, back to working on seed orders.

  3. The old Farmer’s Almanac calls for cooler and drier weather for our summer too! I can handle the cooler, but not looking forward to “drier” as that means more time spent watering. I think I need to take another look at my seed order. I think a few of them I picked were more durable for the hotter weather.

I don’t listen to the weather man anymore. As for the so called snow storm…. we probably had an inch. A lot of wind and blowing though1

  4. The Farmer’s Almanac calls for the same here in Northeast Wisconsin for the this coming summer. I can handle the cooler temps, but “drier” weather means more time spent watering! :(

    • Yes that’s true! Our last summer being so dry we had trouble watering the garden. The ground was cracked down 3 inches in some places and the well kept going dry. :(

  5. Just heard that we are to start getting more snow this evening and continue until Friday…if it transpires, that is going to be awful considering today was beautiful…and now it’s cold and eveything that melted and turned to water is now ice.

I definitely will not be going anywhere…will see if the kids even have school come Tueday if this continues.

Hope you and family are staying warm and dry.

    Blessings,
    Connie

  6. We got cold weather coming the next few days here too. Weatherman is calling for freezing rain starting tonight with 2 inches of snow accumulation by tomorrow evening. Yuck!!! Temps were about 36 degrees F today and we’ve been quite spoiled. Not sure I am ready for the next few days of temps near 0.

  7. We ended up with around 2ft of snow…it has stopped snowing but now the temperature as dipped to -14…and that is very cold for us.

Kids were home from school yesterday but school was open today…hopefully no one freezes. Tried to send them out with us many layers as possible. Now we are getting a huge wind storm and everything is blowing off the roof…sometimes we cannot even see the neighbours homes.

Thankfully dh can work from home…been doing that all week.

Very grateful to be home…dealing with some sad family news right now…and so being home is good…house is quiet…grandson sleeping and just too down for much else. Bread in the breadmaker…and spaghetti sauce on the stove for dinner.

    We are blessed.

I pray you are all doing well.

    Hugs,
    Connie
