Well the cold weather continues on our little homestead. It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago it was so hot. As I’m typing this, there are snow flurries falling and a strong east wind. If the weather man is right we might end up with a small covering of snow. If the winds would ease up and the sun come out, it would warm up quite a bit! Then I could at least turn the heater off in the greenhouse.
This morning we discovered that our kids pet rabbit had been killed by a raccoon. It some how managed to open the door to the barn, then ripped into the cage. We’ve never had a coon get into the barn before, although one did dig into the chicken pen last year. So we are all very sad right now, especially the children. The rabbit “Daisy” was a birthday gift not long ago for our oldest.

Aw, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. It is amazing how close you can get to an animal. I cried like a baby when our rabbit died.

Yes pets are a big part of our lives! It’s easier not to get attached to “livestock” but pets are different.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your rabbit! I personally have a hard time watching dog or horse movies where they die or get hurt or even lost!!

When I was little I could never watch shows where animals were hurt. I still don’t like it, naturally. But I have raised our own meat. It’s not easy, but at least I know the animal had a good life etc.
It’s different with pets because you let yourself get so close to them.
But I feel so bad for the kids. It’s bad enough that the bunny died, but they were the ones to find it.
So sorry for the loss of your children’s bunny. It amazes me how those coons can get into such places. I think dh and I better check our chicken coop more carefully. I haven’t seen racoons in the back and that could be because of the dog. But the dog is in the kennel at night.
Hope you all are feeling better soon and your weather warms up. We are having another huge wind storm right now and rain showers. But it’s only 3 degrees out. So very cold. One degree colder and we could be getting snow even though I don’t think it’s in the forecase.
Praying you have a blessed weekend despite the sadness. Perfect day for family time and cuddling.
Blessings,
Connie

Thank you Connie.
Yes there has been lots of cuddles this weekend. Coons are very good at getting into places. (sigh) We still are not sure if he managed to get the door open, or if he was in the barn attic.
I am sorry for your loss, we lost several chickens to a raccoon a few years ago, very upsetting for the whole family. We have had a raccoon getting in the compost container, hopefully we have made it impossible for him to dig in where he was, we will see if he gets smarter.

Hi Kim: Just had to stop by and post because this morning April 1st…we woke up to a huge snowstorm….can you believe it? Here on the west coast the apple blossoms are out daffodils in full bloom and the crocus’s (sp?) all in full bloom and we get a snow storm. Such weird weather. But as I am typing the sun is shining and still a few snow flakes…only zero degrees though.
Also, I got my other blog with WordPress up and running again. My soon to be SIL Jared fixed my issues and added Akismet (thank you) to my blog. I had 127,638 spam comments. Yes, you read right. Thankfully Jared could go into the “bowels” of my blog and delete every comment. Unfortunately, that deleted all the other ones. But he is going to try and import them again…not that I care. So will see.
So my blog over there where I will be blogging is http://www.reignover.us
Hope you are having a wonderful Lord’s Day!
Connie
