Goodness this past week has been cold out.  Winter has returned and strong!  Late last week we had a cold front come thought and it left us with heavy snow squalls for 3 or 4 days.  Our roads here were closed for almost 2 days, and most of the buses and schools were closed as well.

My last video I was showing how little snow we have, well now we have about 6 inches.  Still not very much for our area, we normally would have 2 feet of snow on the ground.  It’s the temperatures that are making everyone talk.  Last night it was -20C.  I forgot to set the kitchen taps to drip slowly before bed, and woke up to frozen taps.  Thankfully they thawed out very quickly after dh put the heater on the pipes in the basement.

Go figure we are suppose to have RAIN in a few days, then back to the deep freeze again.  That will make a mess of ice.  But I’m grateful for all the snow and rain we can get.  We need it for the ground water table so badly.

I’m very, very thankful for the new wood stove we put in this fall.  It’s the best wood stove we have ever owned and Canadian made! WooHoo!

  2. Is your wood stove in the basement or in the living part of the house? We are planning to put in a fireplace with an insert or a wood stove…I’d like a woodstove because I think it would be more efficient than building a fireplace AND buying an insert. But I’m also concerned about the children falling onto it….So what is your opinion?
We don’t have very much snow right now…about an inch. But it is cold enough to have school delays for those who attend public schools. (I imagine that makes Canadians laugh!! COLD?? In Indiana?? I think that they are thinking about children waiting for the school bus in cold temperatures…BUNDLE UP THEN!! Right???)

    • We have two wood stoves, both are in the living area. Hubby says having the stove in the basement would work fine to and keep the floors warmer. We have ours on the main floor because the basement is a bit small, and I don’t want it getting to warm down there because that’s where our root cellar is.
You could put a gate around the stove area, to keep the kids away from it to. When my were really little I use a fold up laundry hanger to “wall” off that section from them.

I might be Canadian, but I don’t like the cold either! LOL But then again, the hot humid summers are hard on me to. :P

  3. I thought -6 was cold…which it is very here on the west coast. We are getting lots of rain right now. I would love a wood stove, but not happen. No where to put it…and the cost to take out any of our fireplaces would be huge.

Nice to see your blog and facebook posts.

    Blessings,
    Connie
