Goodness the time goes by so quickly doesn’t it.  I didn’t realize it had been about 2 weeks since I posted last.  We’ve all been down with yet another nasty virus here. :-(    This time poor hubby has it to, normally he shakes things off in less then a day.  Immune system of iron that guy. lol  I’m about ready to have us all start eating raw garlic. lol  That might drive the viruses away for good!

So things are moving slowly here on the little homestead.   We are doing another round of decluttering.  The more things that head out of the house, the more open and spacey things feel.  Love it!   Hubby is still working on the summer kitchen renovations.  It is getting close to being done, but his being sick has slowed things down.  He just has a few drywall touch ups left to do then a light sanding.  We should be able to paint it soon!  I really can’t wait for it to be finished.  Once my shelves are back up out there, it will tidy up a lot of the chose in the kitchen.

A project for the afternoon is to start my seed orders.  I think this is the latest I’ve ever left it before.  The kids are going to have fun mapping out their garden on paper and planning what they want to order as well.  A good living math lesson there!

Our weather has been much more winter like lately.   I don’t think I can count the number of snow days the public schools have had in the past month!  Last Friday we had a good storm come in that dropped a foot or more of snow.  But we were not hit nearly as hard as our friends out on the east coast.  Sunday night brought lots of freezing rain that shut down everything on Monday morning again.  When the snow squalls started up Monday afternoon, yikes that was a mess!!

  1. It was pretty warm here in Indiana yesterday and I took a little time to move some decayed leaves and grass/dirt to my two raised beds. It was about 45 degrees or so and the ground was soft! Pretty strange for February here! Usually we have LOTS of snow and ice this part of February! (Well…not “lots” compared to what you get!!) I probably should have spent more time working in the house but it felt sooo good to get outside for a while!
I hope you all get better soon!! One of my daughters has been kinda sicky too…but she is better now!

    Blessings!

  2. Sorry that you guys have been so sick. It’s taken it’s toll here as well. Our SIL just can’t seem to shake his. Grandson had his first ever cold (22 months old)…poor little guy. I felt so sorry for him. His nose was so sore and the cough was just awful. I tried to spend a lot of time there as he wanted his Grandma :-)

Weather has been on and off….but other than the snow we had Christmas day…nothing. So not sure if that was it…or whether we are still going to be hit one of these days. Never had weather like it before…even for BC it’s odd.

I did want to mention something to you. You had mentioned in one of your videos about not being able to get wood chips in your area. Have you ever thought of just purchasing a small wood chipper yourself? Dh had I have found a couple on Craigslist…and with neighbours or just our own yard, we could cut/prune things and just wood chip them ourselves. The prices for wood chippers are not that bad and in the end if it saved your garden…might be something to look into. Just a thought.

Hope you have a great week…loved the Valentines post as well:-)

    • Aww I hope your all feeling better soon to! Still sick here lol. Get over one bug, hubby brings another one home. (sigh)

I’ve thought of getting a wood chipper to. But we’ve never found one at a good price and had the money for an “extra” like that at the same time. lol We don’t have many trees on our yard to make use of it. Other then a few dwarf fruit trees there is just one huge maple that boarders the road. The bush that surrounds us doesn’t belong to us and is mostly pine. Craigslist isn’t big here just down in the city.
BUT hubby did find a place that sells wood chips by the dump truck load. So we are going to try and get some! They are not a mix of green/dry like you would get chopping up fresh trees. They are from a wood mill, but I’ve used similar wood chips when we put in pathways and the soil there is really nice now. lol So I think it should work ok!
